A planning application for a mixed-use development in Portobello, Edinburgh, has been submitted.
The proposals have been submitted by 7N Architects on behalf of Cruden Property Developments and if approved, would see a 3.45-hectare brownfield site transformed.
The plans include 219 new homes, 42 of which would be for retirement living, which will be constructed in tenement blocks and colonies-style housing delivered around a central park. A supermarket would also be situated on Portobello High Street, while new pedestrian routes would help to improve connectivity between the nearby beach and High Street, it has been reported.
In its design statement, 7N Architects said: "The masterplan proposes that the inner area of the residential component be made up of terraced colonies type housing.
"It is intended that the dwellings present active frontages elements, such as front doors and main living apartment windows to pedestrian priority streets, designed at a scale that is appropriate to a quieter and more intimate residential character."
