Major repair works are underway at the DG One facility in Dumfries. The work will see the leisure centre close for a lengthy period.
It initially opened in May 2008 following a number of delays, but it has been plagued with building faults and problems ever since.
As a result, the local authority, who runs the facility, announced a new repairs and maintenance project costing around £4m.
DG One will close fully for four months to allow a lot of the work to be carried out, while the swimming pool facilities will remain closed for an addition 13 months afterwards.
In the interim period, gym facilities have been moved to the town's Loreburn Hall, while a temporary swimming pool has been constructed in the car park of the local Ice Bowl. It opened on Monday (6 October).
Dumfries and Galloway Council has said it is seeking compensation from the contractors who initially built the complex. This includes a claim for the costs of providing the temporary sport facilities during the closure of the flagship centre.
