West Dunbartonshire Council is encouraging the local community to get involved to help shape the future development of Levengrove Park.
The park has already received initial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund's (HLF) Parks for People Programme for £2.6m to help restore the park and improve its facilities.
The local authority is now currently preparing detailed proposals for Stage 2 of the application process. A decision will be made on this next year, when the Council will discover if it has secured the necessary funding from the HLF.
With this in mind, a public consultation event has been organised by the council, who hope to set up a 'Friends of Levengrove Park' group. The group would consist of those who have a keen interest in the park and who wish to assist with the ongoing development.
An initial meeting will be held today (Thursday 25 September) at 7pm in the Concord Centre, Dumbarton. It will involve a presentation of the current plans for the park, such as installing new play and sports facilities, features for disabled residents, a café, and restoring the historic elements of the park.
Commenting on the drop-in session, Councillor Patrick McGlinchey, Convener of Infrastructure and Regeneration, said: "This is an opportunity for people with an interest in Levengrove Park to get involved in its future. The meeting will give those interested in joining the Friends a chance to discuss the potential role and remit of the group prior to, during and following the development of the park."
