A Park-and-Ride facility at Blantyre Railway Station is to double in size.
Work on the £325,000 project, funded by SPT, will start in the coming months, South Lanarkshire Council has said.
It is anticipated that the 60-space facility, situated on Station Road, will be open to the public by early 2015. The scheme will also see better street lighting, CCTV and cycle racks installed.
Michael McGlynn, the local authority's Head of Planning and Building Standards, said: "A park and ride facility with 54 spaces was initially created at the station in 2004. In the decade since, however, the number of trains serving Blantyre Station has doubled and passenger numbers have more than doubled.
"This increase in passenger numbers, although welcome, has consequently put additional pressure on parking capacity.
"This week’s proposal – funded by SPT and to be constructed and managed by the council – will go a long way to boosting options for travellers using Blantyre for work and leisure."
Charles Hoskins, SPT Director of Projects, added: "Sites like Blantyre have proven vital in helping improve local public transport networks. It is great news that this work has been given the green light and we look forward to seeing the new enhanced facility next year."
