A new community centre for Cadder has taken a step closer to completion after it received a £1.91m grant from the Big Lottery Fund.
The money, from the Lottery's Growing Community Assets fund, will go towards the cost of the proposed new community centre. It will contribute towards the capital costs to build the new centre, as well as provide funding in the initial years to support the running costs of the centre, Cadder Housing Association has said.
Linda Brown, from the Association, commented: "This is a major milestone in securing the funding for our new centre and we would like to thank the Big Lottery and all our other funders for their commitment to this project.
"It is a fantastic effort by our Committee, staff, consultants and partners to get us to this stage, where we have secured £2.709 million and are very close to our target, also the design of the new centre recognises the needs, wants and aspirations of local residents."
A tender has now been released for a contractor to build the new facility. It is hoped the appointment will be made by August 2014, with work commencing on site by September 2014. A scheduled completion date of the centre has been given as October 2015. The existing community centre will remain open during the construction period and continue to serve the community.
