A completed section of Dundee's waterfront is set to open this weekend, the Council has confirmed.
It is understood a section of the city's new £11m grid pattern of streets at the waterfront has been finished. It is the west part of the southern road and will open to motorists from Sunday (29 June).
The old Olympia and Hilton Hotel in the area had been demolished earlier this year in order to make way for the new road.
Contractors Sir Robert McAlpine have been carrying out the work. In addition to carving out the route and creating the road surface, work has also been undertaken to the associated drainage works and underground utilities. The project also involves constructing a section of the waterfront's strategic drainage system and the public open space.
Ken Guild, Leader of Dundee City Council, said: "We have all watched with fascination as the new street pattern has begun to emerge since the buildings were demolished. Reaching this stage is giving a real sense of what the central waterfront's road layout will look like when it is complete.
"Opening this section will allow our contractors access to other areas so that they can continue to make good progress with the rest of the new streets."
Work on the current phase of works is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
