Work to transform Kirkintilloch town centre is continuing to progress, East Dunbartonshire Council has said.
Currently, work is continuing on Broadcroft and David Donnelly Place in the town, and has included:
• Widening the pavement to improve accessibility from David Donnelly Place to Cowgate
• Resurfacing Broadcroft
• An improved public area at David Donnelly Place
• Improved landscaping on the pedestrian link between David Donnelly Place and New Lairdsland Road, at Smiths Hotel.
The works are expected to be completed next month.
Commenting on the project, Council Leader Rhondda Geekie said: "The latest improvements in Kirkintilloch town centre are extremely welcome and another positive sign that we are delivering on the Masterplan.
"I'm pleased with the success of the West High Street pedestrian link, which has improved town centre access adjacent to Kirkintilloch Hub and William Patrick Library, and this project will bring similar benefits.
"The wider pavements will ensure better accessibility for the community, while the landscaping will improve the whole look of the area.
"The Kirkintilloch Champions, traders, residents and groups all helped to create the detailed Masterplan which aims to ensure the town centre survives and thrives throughout 2014 and beyond.
"It's a great example of how we can all work together innovatively and positively to help breathe new life into town centres such as Kirkintilloch."
