Work is to commence on the second phase of the River Ness Flood Alleviation Scheme in Inverness.
The contract, valued at £9.3m, will be carried out by McLaughlin and Harvey Ltd.
It is anticipated that work will begin on the project at the end of April 2014 and last for around a year.
Under this phase, work will be undertaken on both sides of the river between Friars Bridge and the mouth of the river, located near the harbour. The development will see the current flood defences along both river banks raised in the form of low walls and embankments. In order to allow this construction work to happen, the Highland Council has said temporary 'Traffic Orders' will be put in place in the area. The work will also be carried out at the same time as the first phase of flood alleviation between Ness Bridge and Friars Bridge
Ahead of the project starting, a public exhibition will be held to discuss the plans.
The event will be held at Trinity Church, Gilbert Street between 12 noon and 6.30pm on Wednesday 26 March.
