A £125,000 improvement programme is underway in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire.
The works to tidy up six sites around the town centre are expected to be completed by April and is the latest round of investment and improvement by the local authority and Campsies Centre (Cumbernauld) Ltd.
As part of the project, contractors will improve footpaths, drainage and lighting, install handrails, landscaping on the concrete apron at Central Way and remove overgrown vegetation, prune overhanging branches and plant shrubs. Issues such as including dropped kerbs and tactile paving, will also be addressed, while the three shopping centres will receive new internal signage. This will be installed next month.
Campsies Centre Chairman, Councillor Allan Graham, said: "This is the start of what promises to be a very busy year of investment and planning in the town.
"Within the next few weeks the council will be releasing the draft Cumbernauld Town Centre Framework and Action Plan to public consultation.
"It is vital we get as many responses as possible during the eight week consultation period. The framework will map out the future of the town centre area for the next 5-10 years."
The draft Cumbernauld town centre framework recommends that a town centre partnership is set up, involving all three centre owners, Campsies Centre, the council and others.
Councillor Graham continued: "The new framework and action plan emphasise the need for partnership working.
"Closer working between the council and its partners, building and land owners, local businesses and the community is needed to achieve the aims set out to make Cumbernauld town centre a place for local people to be proud of."
