Perth and Kinross Council is to meet this week to discuss proposals for upgrading Alyth Primary School.
The report, which will be presented to the Lifelong Learning Committee, will outline the preferred option for improving the facilities for learning and teaching at the school.
Through the local authority's investment programme for improving the school estate in Perth and Kinross, £8.8m has been made available for the Alyth upgrade.
A detailed appraisal of the project has identified a few different options for the site. This includes essential maintenance and upgrades, a new build school, and a partial new build integrating the existing B-listed main school building which dates back to Victorian times.
It is the third option that is being recommended for approval as it is considered by Education and Children's Services to best meet the requirements for the school and will enable the Council to make effective use of the existing school building into the future.
Lifelong Learning Convener, Councillor Bob Band said: "The Council has a range of experience in converting and incorporating Victorian buildings as part of school improvement and upgrade works. The detailed assessment of our options has highlighted that the most appropriate approach to upgrading Alyth Primary School is to make the existing main building an integral part of this project.
"This is a further example of the continued commitment to invest in our school estate to provide high-quality facilities for learning and teaching that will serve the needs of pupils and teachers in the years ahead."
