Housing chiefs in East Renfrewshire have launched a 'mutual exchange register' to help tenants wishing to move to a more affordable or appropriate property.
The move will allow tenants in council houses or housing association properties to ask the local authority for a list of suitable matches. It will also provide applicants with more choice and control of their housing needs, and let them to find a suitable property without having to wait until one becomes available.
The register will also assist East Renfrewshire Council's housing service to help applicants who may face rent arrears as a result of the welfare reform changes. Applicants can apply to be on the register or view their matches by visiting Eastwood headquarters or Barrhead Council Offices.
Discussing the launch of the project, Councillor Devlin, Convener for Housing, said: "Social housing in East Renfrewshire is in short supply therefore the mutual exchange register is set to help local tenants in council or housing association properties who wish to move to another more suitable tenancy."
