Orkney Council has said Stromness Swimming Pool should reopen to the public in November.
The facility is currently closed as it undergoes refurbishment.
The changing rooms are being upgraded, while the pool is closed while the new tiles are laid.
The tiling itself will be completed by Friday 18 October, but there will then be a 14-day curing period before the pool can start to be refilled. In addition, the heating of the pool will take around seven days to give an opening date of 9 November.
The Orkney-based pool closed at the beginning of August and it had been hoped that the works would take eight weeks to complete, however, the local authority has said the current delays are unavoidable due to the lead in time for the supply of materials.
Garry Burton, Orkney Council's Sports and Leisure Manager, said: "Clearly, the length of the closure of the pool will be a disappointment to the regular users of the pool and the Stromness community.
"The facility is well valued and used and it has been a miss. However the current delay is unavoidable due to the lead in time for supply of materials.
"Staff within the Council's Education, Leisure and Housing Service are in close contact with the swimming pools regular user groups. We will continue to monitor the situation and are working closely with the contractor to keep the project to the new timescales and wherever possible we are seeking to speed the process to ensure the pool can re-open as soon as possible."
