A refurbishment project of Inverclyde's Clyde Square has been awarded second place at the national Street Design Awards.
The awards, which are organised by Local Government News magazine, recognises the best practice and innovation in street design schemes throughout the UK.
This year, an independent panel of judges selected Clyde Square to receive the runner-up prize for the Pedestrian Environment award.
The Council commissioned a feasibility design for the refurbishment of Clyde Square in Greenock. The design solution was viewed as creative and people-focused, with close attention to detail.
The ambitious project was completed in just 12 weeks to coincide with the formal opening of the Customer Service Centre by Her Majesty the Queen in July 2012.
Referring to the award, Provost Moran said: "This is a fine achievement for Inverclyde. To be the only Scottish project shortlisted in the national awards and coming out on top of internationally recognised London's Leicester Square, gives us a lot to be proud of. The refurbished Clyde Square has provided a high quality and welcoming setting for the town centre."
The awards ceremony is due to take place in November this year.
