It has been reported by the BBC, that Ofgem has rejected SSE's case for the Western Isles subsea cable.
The project, which has been valued around £780m, would carry electricity generated on the Western Isles to the mainland.
Scottish Hydro-Electric Transmission Ltd, a division of SSE, has submitted the document as part of the planning process, and it outlined why the cable was needed. However, the energy regulator has the document 'lacked information', leading to its rejection.
It is just the latest delay to hit the project.
The Islands local authority, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, has argued that major renewable energy projects planned for the isles cannot go ahead without the cable.
If approved, the cable would stretch to almost 50 miles from Gravir on Lewis to Ullapool on the north-west coast of mainland Scotland.
