The city council-led team assembled to score the National Performance Centre for Sport for Dundee could be supported with an extra £5m of capital funding.
Councillors will be asked to approve the spending, which would be put into action if Dundee wins the bid.
The city's bid is being submitted on 5 July.
On Monday, the Council's Policy and Resources Committee will hear how the additional funding will help provide the capital costs of the centre and its facilities on top of the £25m grant that has already been pledged by the Scottish Government.
Dundee City Council is in partnership along with the University of Dundee, University of Abertay, Dundee, Dundee College, Dundee United Football Club, Dundee Football Club, NHS Tayside and Leisure & Culture Dundee.
Policy and Resources Convener Councillor Ken Guild said: "A pledge to provide extra funding would ensure that the Dundee vision could be achieved and that we can maximise opportunities the performance centre would bring. This would be a sound investment for the future of the city.
"We were delighted that Dundee has made it through to the second round and the steering group is working hard on finalising the fine details of our bid, including options for a hotel and the management of the facility.
"The selected location at Camperdown Park is quite simply stunning and provides our bid with a 'wow' factor that is hard to match.
"Community access proposals are also integral to our plans. Dundee is a sporting city and I want as many people as possible to benefit from the National Performance Centre for Sport."
