The next stage of the Dunoon CHORD project is underway in Argyll and Bute, as work starts on the detailed design and planning phase of an £8.6m Waterfront project.
The work will see a major redevelopment and refurbishment of the Queen's Hall, road realignment works, the creation of a new public space and an allocation to the ferry infrastructure improvement works.
The proposals will also see an extended Queen's Hall building, upgraded library and learning provision and a new soft play area, as well as main hall and stage improvements.
Architects Malcolm Fraser will lead the design of the project and once the detailed design is complete, the project team, headed by Parsons Brinckerhoff, will submit the plans for permission, followed by a tender for construction.
Chair of the Dunoon CHORD Project Board Councillor Dick Walsh said: "The overall project offers a once in a lifetime opportunity to enhance, expand and secure the future of the services proposed for the Queen’s Hall in an exciting and forward looking space.
"I am keen to see the project progress as quickly as possible and at the same time ensure that we make the most of available resources.
"The project is very much aimed at providing a facility which will provide a fantastic experience for residents and visitors to the hall and the immediate area and also act as a hub for Cowal as a whole in terms of driving forward and showcasing what the area has to offer.
"The potential inclusion of the Visitor Information Centre, Dunoon Library and a new soft play area on top of an improved hall space and cafe is an exciting combination of services which I believe will benefit Dunoon for years to come."
The design team has said it will continue to work closely with relevant partners and also consult and communicate with the people of Dunoon and Cowal as the Waterfront plans progress.
