A series of road improvements are to be carried out in Cumbernauld over the summer.
North Lanarkshire has said the council will begin work on three key footpaths, including the Lye Brae East and West footbridges.
The proposed work will take 18 weeks to complete and is expected to cost £460k.
The work will involve removing the existing cantilevered bridge decks which will be reconstructed, waterproofed and resurfaced. Concrete repairs will also be carried out to both structures, while the existing parapets will be upgraded with new steel parapets to meet current safety standards for pedestrians and cyclists.
The work will be carried out by Concrete Repairs Ltd on behalf of the council.
Councillor James Coyle, Convener of the Planning and Transportation Committee: "We have scheduled this essential maintenance so that the majority of the work is carried out during the school summer holidays, to minimise the disruption to pupils at the nearby Cumbernauld High.
"We are carrying out the works on both bridges at the same time which will reduce overall construction time and allow the footbridges to reopen as quickly as possible."
In addition to the above, the slip roads to and from the northbound A8011 at Condorrat Interchange will be resurfaced. This work will take place in the first full week of the school holidays by Amey Public Services at a cost of £50k.
When this is complete, a programme of maintenance will be carried out on the A8011 Condorrat Interchange Bridge. Contractor WI & A Gilbert Ltd has been appointed to carry out the work, which is expected to begin in mid July and last for seven weeks. The expected cost of the project is £99,500.
