Barr Construction has secured a contract to build a retail development in Edinburgh, as well as a subsequent fit-out for Sainsbury's supermarket, Construction Now has reported.
Initially, property developer Morbaine Ltd appointed Patton Construction for the build, but work has stopped in the early stages after the contractor fell into administration.
Barr Construction is currently on site at Inglis Green Road and plans to complete the construction of the shell by summer 2013.
The store will be almost 100,000 sq ft, comprising retail sales floor, staff areas and a customer cafe. Ground level car parking will be created for 385 cars, including 16 parent and toddler spaces, 16 disabled spaces and 16 covered trolley bays. After construction of the shell, Barr will manage the fit-out of the store and its six pump petrol station on behalf of Sainsbury’s. Barr will be working with local subcontractors where possible and at the peak of activity, around 200 workers are expected on site.
Paul Griffen, Construction Director for Barr Construction, said: "This contract will give Barr an opportunity to prove its commitment to high quality construction and ability to adapt under pressure.
"We have constructed stores-on-stilts for a number of developers and retails clients across the UK and built up valuable expertise in this area."
