Over 200 construction students have been visiting Glasgow’s most anticipated building site this month, as Cruden Building & Renewals (CBRL) builds the 2014 Commonwealth Games Athletes' Village.
CBRL is one of four construction companies in the City Legacy Consortium working on the development.
210 students, aged between 16 and 25 years of age, are being given an insight into the processes involved in the construction of the Village.
22 site visits are to be conducted this month. The students will take part in small groups of 10 as part of their National Qualification (NQ) or National Progression Award (NPA) in brickwork, joinery, plastering, wall & floor tiling and conservation & restoration.
Allan Callaghan, Managing Director of CBRL, said: "This is a once-in-a-life-time opportunity for the students of City of Glasgow College to gain valuable experience and see a project of this scale and prominence first-hand.
"This is just one way of ensuring that young people currently studying in the East End of Glasgow are given the opportunity to benefit from the Games. It enables them to put the theory of what they have learned in the classroom into practice, to talk to and glean knowledge from highly-skilled and specialists tradespeople, whilst enhancing their skills and hopefully inspiring the next generation to pursue a career in construction."
