Landlords of rented properties in Dundee are being invited to improve their knowledge of rental and tenancy law, as the council announces a special seminar for next week.
Dundee City Council says over 100 people are already registered for the free session on tenancy agreements, to be hosted by the private sector services unit.
The event will be the 21st to be run under the auspices of Dundee Landlord Accreditation (DLA); a network made up of and supporting property owners and letting agents.
Glasgow-based solicitors Andrew Cowan and Ruth O’Hare will speak at the event, covering topics such as the legal requirements and pitfalls in creating tenancies, how to avoid unfair contract terms in leases, the legal rights and obligations of landlords and tenants, what action can be taken against tenants if things go wrong and what could be construed as harassment.
Also to be discussed at the event is legislation dealing with Tenant Information Packs, due to arrive 1 May.
Standard documents in a pack will include the tenancy agreement, gas certificate and energy performance certificates.
The first DLA seminar was held in 2007. Since then, over 1,300 people have attended, with post-event feedback showing a satisfaction rate of 95%.
The gathering on 5 February will take place at Discovery Point from 15.30 to 17:00.
