The bid to find a name for the new Forth Replacement Crossing has thrown up a list of some of the biggest names in Scottish culture and history.
The public has been asked to take part in Transport Scotland’s 'Name The Bridge' campaign, which will run until the end of January 2013.
So far over 3,000 different names have been suggested since the campaign was launched in November.
Famous Scots whose names have been suggested include William Wallace, Sir Jackie Stewart, Robert the Bruce, Sir Chris Hoy, Andrew Carnegie, Sir Sean Connery, Sir Jimmy Shand, Mary Queen of Scots and Muriel Spark.
An advisory panel will undertake a consultation on all the suggested names. A shortlist will then be put to a public vote.
Transport Minister Keith Brown said: "There have, of course, been countless globally renowned Scots and it is interesting to see the suggested names and comments put forward by the public in favour of these noteworthy figures, past and present.
"It is great to hear that people would like to honour our most famous sons and daughters by naming the new Forth crossing after them. The advisory panel will consider them and all other suggestions."
Ideas, suggestions and feedback can be submitted at www.namethebridge.co.uk.
