Public Invited To View Supermarket Plans

The public are to be given the chance to view plans for a proposed supermarket in Greenock.

Asda have revealed they are intending to invest £20m on a new store on the site between Campbell Street, Union Street, Robertson Street and Brougham Street in the West End.

According to the supermarket giant, this latest venture will create 300 full and part time jobs.

Two events, on Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 October, will be taking place at the Tontine Hotel, and ASDA have invited those residents living closed to the site to view the new plans.

Residents had previously been made privy to the original plans and were given the opportunity to provide feedback. The two events will showcase the changes resulting from the public consultation.

The public will have an opportunity to view the proposed site layout and artist’s impressions of the store, as well as speak to Asda representatives about the development.

A statement from Asda said: "As well as improving the appearance of the existing site, this will assist in the provision of additional cruise liner facilities, with the intention of attracting more visitors to Inverclyde."

Following approval of the application, Asda will begin recruitment in the local area and have stated a commitment to keep positions free for local people.

Lisa Rooke, Asda’s Property Communications Manager for Scotland, said: "We are delighted to be holding these community engagement events, allowing the public the opportunity to view our proposals for the store and give us their feedback. If our planning application is successful this will enable us to make a significant investment in the town, regenerating a currently redundant site, and creating up to 300 new jobs for local people."
