Free home insulation is to be made available across Glasgow to help householders cut their bills and their carbon footprints.
The Universal Home Insulation Scheme (UHIS) previously focused on areas with high proportions of older sandstone tenements - for instance Dennistoun, Govanhill and Pollokshields East.
Gordon Matheson, the leader of Glasgow city council, announced the expanded scheme, worth £16m of Scottish Government funds over the next year, would be targeted towards those living in pre-1919 tenements especially in areas of high deprivation.
It will offer loft and cavity wall insulation, giving householders the chance to save up to £280 a year on fuel bills.
Cllr Matheson said: "I am determined to help Glasgow's citizens to make real savings and a real difference in their lives. We hope as many people as possible take up the opportunity to insulate their homes for free."
Michael McMahon from Everwarm, the contractor appointed by Glasgow City Council to carry out the work, said "This free insulation offer is a genuine opportunity for home owners to address the energy efficiency of their homes using a trusted and approved contractor. By working together with Glasgow City Council we can reduce the heat loss from homes absolutely free of charge. We urge Glasgow residents to take up this offer before the colder weather sets in by contacting the Freephone number 0800 092 9002."
But Councillor Matheson also warned householders to be check that their contractor was definitely from Everwarm, after the council received information about rogue contractors carrying out insulation work in Glasgow, some of whom may have been adopting a threatening approach to householders.
