Plans for a new £20m supermarket could bring 300 new jobs to Greenock, the company behind the proposals has claimed.
Asda said its plans would bring "more consumer choice, quality produce and Asda's famous low prices" to the Inverclyde town.
The 35,000 square foot store, located between Campbell Street, Union Street and Brougham Street, would also bring 200 construction jobs and improve traffic infrastructure, the chainstore said.
The sale of the site by Clydeport to Asda will also facilitate investment in the cruise liner facility, improving the attractiveness of Greenock as a location for cruise stopovers and provide a considerable boost to the local economy.
Lisa Rooke, Asda's Property Communications Manager for Scotland, said the company wants to know what local people think of the plans.
She said: "Our proposals would enable us to make a significant investment in Greenock, regenerating a largely redundant site, and generating up to 300 new jobs for local people.
"We are looking forward to consulting and working with the local community as our proposals progress and will be undertaking a programme of community engagement in the coming weeks."
A Proposal of Application Notice will subsequently be submitted by Asda to Inverclyde Council to notify it of their intention to submit a planning application for the site.
This will be followed by a period of community engagement prior to submitting a planning application later in the year.
