The £30million regeneration of Irvine town centre reached a new milestone this week with the appointment of the company who will carry out a comprehensive programme of public realm and streetscape improvements within the Bridgegate area.
Momentum is building on the £30 million regeneration of Irvine town centre with the appointment this week of the company who will carry out a comprehensive programme of public realm and streetscape improvements within the Bridgegate area.
Ayrshire-based Land Engineering began initial works on the programme of £2 million regeneration works on Tuesday 17th July with the work scheduled to run until Autumn 2013.
The work will include improvements to both the hard and soft landscaping, provide improved signage, lighting and street furniture and incorporate a number of public art features.
Local training opportunities
A key aspect of the streetscape works is the provision of specific training opportunities for eight local unemployed people, who will be employed by Land Engineering.
Patrick Wiggins, Chief Executive, Irvine Bay said: “I’m delighted to see this major investment in public realm works underway. I understand and appreciate fully that there will be a level of disruption during the ongoing works but I’m confident that upon completion this work will have a major long-term benefit for the town.”
Councillor Marie Burns, spokesperson for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: “I am delighted at the progress now being made in Irvine town centre.
"The people of Irvine are now beginning to see the plans become a reality, with the beginning of this ambitious work in Bridgegate itself following the start of refurbishment at Bridgegate House.
"We are working with our partners at Irvine Bay and the contractors to plan the regeneration of Irvine town centre and minimise disruption as much as possible.
"I believe the end result will be a positive one – one which gives local people increased pride in their town, while making it a more attractive destination for visitors and businesses looking to invest in the town.”
