A Scottish energy company has agreed to buy four Irish power stations and other assets for a total of more than £390m.
Perth-based SSE plans to buy the assets from Spanish company Endesa, part of the Enel group.
Enel is selling the assets to offset weak power demand in its Italian and Spanish markets.
SSE will pay £256m for the assets and invest the remainder in a power generation facility in Kerry and a partially-constructed plant in Wexford.
If it goes ahead, the deal will see SSE become the third-largest energy company in Ireland.
The agreement is pending regulatory approval.
