Work on the new Auchmuty High School is progressing rapidly with another building landmark reached, the completion of the steel structure.
Headteacher Alan Pithie recently took a short walk out to the site with some staff and pupils to see how the building was growing and was delighted with the view.
He commented: "Seeing the steel structure in place really gives the project a new sense of actuality. We are delighted that work is moving on at such a pace and there’s a growing feeling of excitement within the school. It's quite a unique experience to be able to watch your future school spring up before your eyes and the children have found the whole process fascinating."
The school technicians have put together a very short film, using time-lapse photography, where they show the rapid progress on the build. The pupils can then watch the film on the school’s website.
BAM Construction are the company tasked with building Auchmuty High School. The school is being built as part of Fife Council’s £156m Building Fife's Future programme, which will see a total of six new schools built or rebuilt in Fife.
Carnegie Primary School in Dunfermline has already opened its doors and Dunfermline High School is following close behind with the school set to open after the summer holidays.
The Auchmuty HS build is currently on week 29 of an estimated 90 week building programme with external and drainage work nearly complete and the external structural framing system well underway.
The new school will boast some real green credentials and sustainability has been a key factor in all the new build projects. Auchmuty High School will benefit from a bio-mass heating system, solar water heating and rain water harvesting for use in the toilet areasHS. It is hoped that the school will also have its own wind turbine.
