Developers Welcome £3m Pipeline Investment

Housing and development leaders in Fife are welcoming the completion of Scottish Water’s £3 million Dunfermline Eastern Expansion project.

The 6 mile long pipe will increase the volume of the drinking water network, freeing up additional capacity. This is allowing developers to build up to 2,500 new homes, meeting local area projections.

Derek Wilson, technical director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland said: "Taylor Wimpey is delighted to be working with Scottish Water, along with other strategic partners, to deliver a truly integrated infrastructure within the Dunfermline Eastern Expansion.

"The investment to increase Scottish Water's network will allow Taylor Wimpey, as well as other key developers, to continue with their plans to deliver a range of stylish new homes that meets the aspirations of today's buyers hoping to call Dunfermline home."

Homes built by some of the largest developers in Scotland, will be constructed side by side with affordable housing from the Kingdom Housing Association.

Chief Executive Alan McGuckin said: "We are committed to working with our partners to develop projects which go beyond the provision of bricks and mortar and make a contribution towards social inclusion. Such projects cover a wide range of areas, including sustainability and education and that is why we are so delighted at the completion of this important strategic investment by Scottish Water. This will help us to continue to provide the high quality affordable housing which is so badly needed both in Dunfermline and across Fife."

Dunfermline is playing its part in the continuing Fife success story, as this area once dominated by mining and heavy industry redevelops itself into a thriving 21st century community.

Jim Birrell senior manager, Enterprise, Planning & Protective Services for Fife Council welcomed the completion of the pipeline into Eastern Dunfermline.

He said: "This is an important milestone in the continuing planning and economic development of Dunfermline and the west of Fife. It’s an exciting time for the area with recent major inward investments.

"Having the infrastructure in place to provide quality housing will kick start further development and strengthens Fife as a location that is easy to do business with."

This is just one of a number of such projects that Scottish Water is undertaking in order to support the economic growth and development of the kingdom.
