Scottish Water is about to start a £750,000 project in Bearsden which will upgrade a waste water pumping station and help protect the natural environment in the area.
The investment will allow Scottish Water to comply with ministerial directives.
The project will modernise the Hillfoot Waste Water Pumping Station, a key part of Scottish Water’s waste water infrastructure in the area, improve the water quality in the Manse Burn and reduce the chance of spillage from the low-lying inlet network.
Contractors Ross-shire Engineering, working for Scottish Water, are expected to complete the project in about four months.
Their work will include the replacement of pumps at the pumping station, which is located on land between Burnmouth Place and Hillfoot Railway Station, the installation of a new screen and of a replacement outfall to the river.
Mr Steven Fraser, Scottish Water’s waste water operations manager, said: "We are delighted to be starting this important project which will improve the operability and efficiency of Hillfoot Pumping Station.
"It is an important part of Scottish Water’s waste water infrastructure in the Bearsden area and the improvements will help ensure it performs well and that we help protect the natural environment in the area."
