Aberdeen Harbour Investment Announced

Peterson SBS has announced a £1.5 million capital investment in its quayside operations at Aberdeen Harbour.

The company has leased a further two berths from Aberdeen Harbour Board and has secured additional accommodation, including a transit warehouse for the receipt and containerisation of items and equipment consigned for offshore and international distribution and office accommodation for its operations team.

In addition to this, a new fuel tank for the storage of marine gas oil is also currently in development to meet increasing demands from offshore clients for security of supply. Peterson SBS offers comprehensive logistics solutions, including logistics management, for the energy sector.

Peterson SBS managing director Mike Porter said: "The international sea freight market is a key target for Peterson SBS in 2012 and to meet the needs of this sector we have increased our quayside operations by leasing two more berths at Waterloo Quay.

"We also anticipate 25% uplift in demand for these services from our existing North Sea clients. The addition of the two berths will bring the total number of private berths we operate at Aberdeen Harbour to five, this sets us ahead of our competitors as the only oil and gas logistics contractor with its own private berthage in the port of Aberdeen.

"Speed and efficiency is essential for the vessels coming into Aberdeen Harbour and installing a new fuel tank will give us the ability to refuel a greater number of large platform supply and diving support vessels. We also have plans for new high quality office space, within the 15,000 square foot transit warehouse and this will be used as a control centre for the management, receipt, inspection and packing of approximately 350,000 tonnes for consignment offshore per annum."

As part of Peterson SBS’s plan to offer clients complete logistics management solutions, 50% of the transport fleet will be upgraded this year. Mike continued: "Providing a high quality service is paramount and in line with our expansion and growth plans, we will be upgrading half of our fleet in the coming year, so all vehicles in our fleet will be less than three years old.

"These developments are part of our strategic plan to grow the business. We have developed a strong customer base and this is continuing to rise with recent contract wins, along with increased demand for our services. The expansion of our facilities will allow us to increase and improve the range of logistics management solutions we provide."

Peterson SBS offers a comprehensive range of safe, reliable and value added logistics solutions to the Energy Industry in the Dutch and UK sectors of the North Sea from strategic locations. Established 40 years ago, the organisation has expanded throughout the UK with facilities at a number of prominent ports including a major integrated asset base in Aberdeen. In 2008, Peterson SBS was incorporated into the Dutch logistics group Peterson Control Union, a global organisation in the field of inspection, quality management and logistics.

Peterson SBS employs 346 people in the UK, 195 of which are based at its offshore supply bases in Aberdeen. The company also has bases in Shetland, which has a staff of 47 people, Heysham which employs 26 personnel, Edzell employs 42 people and 36 people are based in the firm’s Great Yarmouth office.
