Motorists are advised that an abnormal load will be transported between Methil Docks and Tullis Russell’s Bio-Mass Plant in Glenrothes between 22:00hrs on Saturday 14 January and run till 08:00 on Sunday 15th January, 2012.
This movement is necessary in relation to the installation of a 213 tonne gas turbine at the plant. The abnormal load will be transported by a flat top trailer that is 5.7 metres wide and has an overall length of 40 metres. The 290 tonne combined trailer and tractor unit will travel at a maximum speed of 12 miles per hour.
The agreed route has taken account of the size and weight of the load and it will leave Methil Docks and travel along the A955/B932/A915/A911 before turning North onto the A92 and into the site after Preston footbridge. It is intended that the movement of the load will be completed by 08:00 hours to minimise disruption to motorists.
The movement requires a load capacity assessment to be carried out on the A915 River Leven Railway Bridge. To ensure that the bridge load capacity is not exceeded, the trailer unit requires to be of a specific configuration.
This configuration unfortunately has led to the need to remove the deck on the A911 West Mill footbridge from approx 22:00hrs till 06:00hrs on the Sunday. During the closure period a safe route for pedestrians across the A911 will be available. The deck will be replaced before the road closure is lifted.
Fife Constabulary will accompany the load throughout its journey and will provide direction for motorists as and when necessary.
The movement will be carried out by specialist haulage company ALE on behalf of BDP, and SIEMENS.
Fife Council Transportation & Environmental Services will carry out advance modification and restoration of street furniture to enable the movement. ALBA Traffic Management will provide the traffic management for all the elements of the movement.
This movement was originally planned to take place in mid-December.
