The children of Mains Estate in Milngavie have some brand new play equipment in their park thanks to a fantastic £30k fund raising effort by the Mains Estate Residents’ Association (MERA).
MERA’s project, supported by East Dunbartonshire Council and many other organisations, has seen the playpark transformed with the addition of a climbing trail and wall, an orbit swing, a roundabout (which can be used by wheelchair users along with able bodied children) and a springboard.
Rhona Hooper, from MERA, is delighted that the work is now complete and that local families are already enjoying the new facilities.
She said: “The Committee members of MERA have worked very hard, in partnership with a range of groups and individuals, to bring our ideas for the park to fruition. As well as raising funds we applied for grants with help and support from the Council.
"With the money we raised we’ve been able to make a very real difference to the park and it is encouraging to see so many local people making great use of it. As a community we have all come together and achieved something which is making a difference to the daily lives of many people. I’d like to thank everyone who has helped in any way to get us to this point.”
Provost Eric Gotts, cut the ribbon at the opening of the new playpark. He said: “I am really delighted to be involved in the opening of the new play area in Mains Park. The local Residents’ Association has to be congratulated for its huge fundraising effort over several years for this popular project. Local families will be really thrilled that the new facility is on their doorstep.”
Drainage at the playpark has also been improved as part of the project, it has been fenced off and new hedges have been planted.
