Inverclyde Council’s Education and Lifelong Learning Convener has paid a visit to the latest state of the art secondary school to be completed.
The new £27 million Clydeview Academy has been formed by the amalgamation of Greenock Academy and Gourock High School and has been built on the former St Columba’s site in Gourock.
Councillor Terry Loughran said: “The new school delivers state of the art learning for pupils and staff as well as leisure facilities that will be available to the local community. It is a hugely impressive building affording spectacular views across the Clyde and I cannot think of a more perfect setting in which to learn."
Clydeview Academy has been designed for 21st century learning with state-of-the-art classrooms, library, theatre, and science and technology facilities. The school has one full size 2G all-weather pitch suitable for hockey and football, a grass pitch suitable for rugby and football and a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).
Clydeview Academy marks the completion of Inverclyde’s £78 million PPP Programme that has delivered two brand new primary schools and two new secondary schools for the area.
Councillor Loughran added: "To have delivered four new schools for Inverclyde in the face of the banking crisis and the squeeze on public sector spending is quite remarkable and I know that generations of local people will benefit from the hard work and commitment that has been shown. Together with our extensive refurbishment programme we are set to deliver on our promise that every child in Inverclyde will be taught in a new or refurbished school by 2015."
