Pupils dig deep to mark the start of work Pupils from St Francis Xavier's RC Primary School in Falkirk dug deep to help mark the start of construction work at a new primary school in Antonshill, Stenhousemuir.
They were joined by leader of Falkirk Council, Craig Martin, convener of the education committee, Alex Waddell, chief executive of the Scottish Futures Trust, Barry White, and representatives from main contractors Kier Scotland.
Antonshill Primary will be a new single-stream denominational primary school to serve over 10,000 households in the Larbert, Stenhousemuir, Torwood, Carron and Carronshore areas. It will provide much needed capacity that will reduce pressure on St Francis Xavier’s and St Andrew's RC primary schools that serve the wider Falkirk area. Both these schools are currently at capacity and supplemented by temporary classroom accommodation.
A £2.57 million contribution was received from the Scottish government via the Scottish Future’s Trust towards the total cost of £8 million for the school which has an energy efficient design that will maximise use of natural light and ventilation, coupled with a sophisticated building management system to control lighting and heating.
The construction and fit out of the school are due for completion prior to the start of the new school year in August 2012.
