CCG (OSM) Taking Timber Frame Production To The Next Level.

Construction News Image
CCG (OSM) have spent the last 5 years researching and visiting numerous UK and European timber frame manufacturers, studying their production methods. In conjunction with an extensive R & D programme, CCG (OSM) have designed and installed an automated production line which uses tried and tested equipment and procedures as well as improvements for their own production needs.

Five years ago, John Mackay of Deral, took CCG (Scotland) Ltd Group Managing Director, Alastair Wylie, to visit existing “Off Site Manufacturing” plants in Germany. Alastair Wylie is a huge admirer and advocate for “Off Site Manufacturing”, and had a desire and vision to create the most efficient timber frame production facility in Scotland. Five years on, with the installation of an automated production line from market leaders, Weinmann, in conjunction with local Homag agents Deral, this vision has now been materialised with the completion of CCG (OSM)’s new production facility in the East End of Glasgow.

With the focus on becoming even more efficient as a business and eliminating costly inefficiency which are inherent within the Construction Industry, and also to combat the ever increasing demands of current and future building regulations, CCG as a Group, quickly identified the considerable advantages of closed panel off-site manufacturing processes, which takes more of the traditional site work into a controlled factory environment. As a result, CCG (OSM) now have the facility and capacity to deliver a new generation of timber frame solutions for the Scottish and UK housing markets.

The new Weinmann production line consists of automated framing, turn over tables, multi-function nailing bridges, wall transfer cars, racks to allow for window, external door and lightweight cladding installations, wall panel storage and then high level gantry crane loading. Additional equipment includes a high speed Weinmann beam processing saw, Holzma HPP Beam saw and Weinmann assemble tables for roof and floor cassette manufacture.

Steven Earlie CCG (OSM) Managing Director said: “With a greater extent of the finished product being manufactured under factory controlled conditions, we are able to achieve excellent quality control levels and also substantially reduce and re-cycle our waste produce. Furthermore, with a combination of good design, robust detailing and utilisation of high performing sustainably sourced materials, we are able to provide a superior energy efficient product.”

On site, CCG (OSM)’s “Off Site Manufacturing” capability brings numerous advantages to their Clients, i.e. much quicker “kit” installations and fewer follow-on trade interfaces. This all results in an efficient, quality controlled product within a significantly reduced construction period.

CCG (OSM) are setting the standards in timber frame manufacture and their “Off Site” capabilities will be a major feature of the athletes village at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
