Young people in Glenrothes can look forward to enjoying the use of a new skate park in the town’s Riverside Park.
Councillors of the Glenrothes Area Committee have approved the planning application by Fife Council for the 1200 sq m concrete skate park, which will be fully enclosed and floodlit.
The park, costing around £180,000, will be located to the western perimeter of Riverside Park in an area well screened with mature trees and shrubs and is due to be installed over the coming months.
Councillor Fiona Grant, Chair of Glenrothes Area Committee, welcomed the plans. She said: “Glenrothes is made distinctive and attractive by its green spaces, parks and woodlands and it’s really important that we encourage more people to make use of it. The park is an integral part of the town centre and the skate park will hopefully be well used by the younger generation and encourage a buzz about the place.
“The Picture Glenrothes consultation has been capturing views on what locals want to see and what would make Glenrothes a more attractive, lively and successful place and this project fits well with future plans for the town.”
All the results from the Picture Glenrothes consultation will feed in to the Glenrothes Town Centre Action Plan to go before the area committee next month.
A number of other improvements to Riverside Park are planned through Fife Council’s Take a Pride in Fife initiative including, cleaning out the pond in the Autumn and installing three interpretation boards. Another project will involve local primary schools helping to put in place new pathway signs in the park and produce a booklet on plants and wildlife, supported by two local historians.
