East Ayrshire Council hosted an Apprentice open night for the first time recently and welcomed young people interested in embarking on an apprenticeship.
The councils current apprentices attended the evening and were joined by their managers and supervisors from within Housing Asset Services and key partners from local colleges who support them throughout their apprenticeships.
This gave the young people who attended an invaluable insight into life as an apprentice.
The Council also took the opportunity to recognise our apprentices for their hard work and dedication, presenting certificates to four apprentices and an Apprentice of the Year award.
Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council, attended the opening evening to congratulate the apprentices and meet young people interested in learning a trade. He said: “I was delighted to attend the open evening. This was an invaluable evening for those interested in an apprenticeship and was a great opportunity to congratulate our best apprentices.
“All of our apprentices have shown great skill and commitment but five in particular have surpassed all expectation and have been outstanding. Four Highly Commended certificates were presented to Jamie Cumming, Scott Dinwoodie, David Lees and Rheece Weir and the 2010 Apprentice of the Year Award went to Scott Wright.”
Vokera Boilers generously provided sponsorship for the event and also sponsored the Apprentice of the Year Award. ARCO will be sponsoring this year’s new starts and will provide their PPE kit for a year. Thanks also went to JTC Kitchens who provided the evening’s refreshments.
