Angus Council Neighbourhood Services convener, councillor Jim Millar, has warmly welcomed a financial boost of £1.29 million from the Scottish Government, which will assist Angus Council in building 43 new homes on three sites in the county.
The cash, which is part of the Scottish Government’s £120 million council house building programme, will augment Angus Council’s contribution of £4.73 million to the £6 million cost of the 43 new houses in the county.
This brings the total investment committed through Angus Council to more than £12 million over the past two years, with a total of 83 new build properties to be developed through the council at sites in Arbroath, Montrose, Kirriemuir, Monifieth and Carnoustie.
Councillor Millar said: “We have a real need for new affordable housing in Angus and the building of 43 new homes will mean many people in Angus will get the opportunity to live in new homes at affordable rents. It will make a positive contribution to eradicating homelessness and meeting housing need.
“This will also, hopefully, lead to a local investment and employment boost, creating jobs and training opportunities. It is fantastic news for the Angus economy.
He added: “We are already on site and on target for our new build homes in Carnoustie, and we will be pressing ahead with these new sites without delay.”
Councillor Millar concluded: “We are delighted that the Minister Alex Neil, MSP, shares our commitment to housing in Angus and we look forward to further opportunities to work in partnership with the minister to continue to deliver for the people of Angus.”
Proposals for new builds are: Arbroath – 11 houses; Carnoustie – 10 houses and 28 extra care units; Kirriemuir – four amenity cottages; Monifieth – two cottages; Montrose – 28 houses and amenity homes.
