All demolition works on the Falkland Wall have been stopped.
Fife Council served a Temporary Stop Notice with immediate effect on parties on Wednesday April 21 with regard to ongoing works on the historic wall at the Pleasance in Falkland.
The effect of this Notice will be that no further works can be carried out which would require Planning permission. This includes the wall, gables, outbuildings and wall already removed. The Notice is in force for a 28 day period.
In addition, a Direction was given yesterday by Scottish Ministers in terms of Section 68 Planning (listed buildings and conservations areas) Scotland Act 1997empowering the Council to take action under Section 49 to carry out urgent works to preserve the building.
The Council is now considering the action it will take following the serving of the Temporary Stop Notice and the receipt of the Direction.
Dr Bob McLellan, head of transportation services explained: "The Council has considered how the existing section of wall was demolished and has taken firm action and has served Notice on appropriate parties to ensure that everything possible is done to preserve the remaining section of wall and outbuildings and to reinstate the demolished section of the wall to its previous state, all whilst maintaining public safety."
