Fife Fire & Rescue Service's new Community Fire Station at Pitreavie in Dunfermline has been be officially opened.
The building was completed on time and within budget (£4.2m) and provides a state of the art fire station to replace the existing stations at Dunfermline and Rosyth.
The new station as well as providing modern facilities for firefighters also has lecture facilities and meeting rooms for community use. These facilities will allow the service to provide an extended range of services to the communities of Dunfermline and West Fife.
Chief Fire Officer Jimmy Campbell said: "The key reason for building a new Fire Station for West Fife was that the existing Dunfermline station, built in 1935, was no longer fit for purpose. There were no facilities at either of the current stations to allow for community access and these issues along with the need to refurbish and extend the existing stations would require major capital investment to make them fit for the 21st Century."
He continued: "This investment is part of a programme designed to improve the safety of our firefighters and our communities, continuing to confirm Fife as one of the safest places to live in Scotland. The design team from Property Services of Fife Council, supported by our own staff have brought to life the vision that Fife Fire and Rescue Service had for a new station."
