Fiona Hyslop, Minister for Culture has announced that Historic Scotland is giving a three year cash commitment of more than £360,000 in order to help support the Built Environment Forum Scotland, (BEFS), become the intermediary body to represent the historic environment through the Voluntary Sector Funding Programme.

The funding will be in three tranches: 2010/11 - £120,000; 2011/12 - £123,600 and 2012/13 - £127,308.

The Minister said: "This funding will help BEFS establish itself as the one-stop-shop for the viewpoints of the historic environment voluntary sector. Their members meetings, workshop discussions and working groups will provide invaluable feedback on Government policies."

Robin Burley, Chairman of BEFS said: "We are delighted with Historic Scotland's support which is fantastic encouragement and an endorsement of the work of our members. Our plan is for BEFS to grow into a strong and coherent force for celebrating and improving Scotland’s places by representing historic and built environment interests nationwide.

"My first priority is now the recruitment of a Director and this funding package will ensure a great deal of interest in an opportunity which will make a real difference to the heritage we leave for future generations to enjoy."
