East Lothian Council has begun a six-week consultation on the draft Blindwells development framework, and the public have also been invited to have their say.
The draft framework was approved at a meeting of the Council's Cabinet this month. It outlines the vision, infrastructure requirements and design principles for a new settlement 1km north of Tranent.
The intention of the Blindwells proposal is to transform the 130hectare site into a vibrant community combining 1600 houses, education and community facilities, retail and employment opportunties.
Cllr Barry Turner, East Lothian Council's Cabinet member for Environment, said: "Blindwells provides a major opportunity to create a true community where people will want to live, work and visit. Our vision is for a high quality mixed community that is sustainable, connected with excellent transport links, and has a strong sense of identity. Buildings and spaces will be designed to enhance key natural historic assets and maximise opportunities for energy efficiency. We hope that people will review the framework's proposals and let us know their views."
The consultation will close on 8 March 2010.
