The snow may have gone, and the ice has retreated, but East Dunbartonshire Council workers are still busy gritting and salting roads and filling the mass of potholes that have been left because of frost heave.
Despite the improved weather, temperatures are still falling low enough to mean that gritting and salting of the road network still needs to be maintained. National shortages of salt and grit supplies remain.
Councillor Billy Hendry, Convener of the Development and Infrastructure Committee, said: "Our road crews are still working away furiously. The road network still need gritted and salted but the repair work on the potholes has begun.
"Drivers on all routes are asked to be wary because of the potential for black ice. Meantime our road crews have also been working furiously to fix potholes around East Dunbartonshire.
"The frost heave has caused a lot of damage and it is not just on roadways. Footpaths have been badly affected by the ice. We would ask the public to be patient when it comes to potholes in roadways and footpaths, that although areas will be made safe, it will take two or three months for our teams to carry out more permanent repairs."
