Work began in November to repair and replace windows at Gillespie Memorial Church, funded by Fife Council's Dunfermline Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS).
The rusting metal windows along each side of the church will be replaced with longer lasting timber windows, more appropriate to the listed building.
The two side lancet windows on the west front will also be replaced. Repairs will also be carried out to the large stained glass window on the centre of the west front – this will be the first task, with works starting on site this week.
The total cost of nearly £90,000 is being supported by a £50,000 grant from Dunfermline CARS, using funds provided by Historic Scotland.
Dunfermline CARS Officer Lorraine Bell said: "CARS is delighted to be supporting Gillespie Church in their efforts to keep this important historic building wind and watertight.
"The church and their team have researched the original form of the windows and the works will greatly improve the appearance of the church and enhance this part of Dunfermline’s Outstanding Conservation Area. We hope that our support will help Gillespie to maintain their town centre presence and continue their valuable outreach activity."
Gillespie Church member Alan Moir added: "Dunfermline has a rich Christian heritage, stretching back to the times of Queen Margaret. For over 250 years, Gillespie Church has been serving people living and working in the centre of Dunfermline.
"Whilst our mission has remained unchanged, the way in which we can serve the community has evolved.
"To meet these changing needs, Gillespie has ambitious plans for the development of its property as a community facility.
"This investment is the latest in a series of developments that will create a multi-purpose community hub. We appreciate the support from Historic Scotland and CARS in enabling us to increase our activity in the community."
Fundraising is ongoing for a second phase of works at Gillespie Church, also supported by Dunfermline CARS, planned for next year.
