The seventh and final school to be completed as part of Angus Council's Forfar/Carnoustie schools project has been officially opened.
Langlands Primary in Forfar marks the completion of the £50 million project, with hundreds of pupils in both burghs now enjoying modern purpose built accommodation with state-of-the-art facilities.
Speaking at the official opening on Tuesday 29 September, the council's Vice-Convener of Education Margaret Thomson said: "Today not only marks the opening of this fantastic new school at Langlands, but also the culmination of many years work to provide schools fit for the 21st century in Forfar and Carnoustie.
"The council will now continue its commitment to providing first class educational facilities throughout the county with ongoing investment to upgrade and replace school buildings bringing benefits to both learners and the wider community."
The new Langlands is a two stream primary school, designed to provide accommodation for 444 primary aged pupils with up to 80 pre-school places. It also incorporates an Additional Support Needs (ASN) facility which can serve the needs of up to 12 pupils on the autistic spectrum and 20 pupils with learning difficulties.
The original school was demolished to make way for the new building on the same site, which was re-developed to accommodate the new single storey building, together with the provision of outdoor spaces for learning and teaching, recreation, as well as social and sports activities.
Internally, the school benefits from state-of-the-art ICT through the latest computer technology, interactive whiteboards and plasma screens, all having the added ability to display digital TV and digital signage throughout the school.
Head teacher Kim Walker said: "The benefits of the new Langlands are too many to list and it is a fantastic educational facility of which we are all very proud. Staff are confident that the new Langlands provides a school for the 21st century to benefit and meet the needs of all of our pupils."
Through public private partnership, Robertson Capital Projects were appointed by Angus Council to deliver this £50 million redevelopment of the council's education estate.
The extensive building project comprised the design, construction, financing and operation of six primary schools and a major new extension to Carnoustie High School. All schools are constructed by Robertson Eastern, with Robertson Facilities Management providing a range of management and support services during the 30-year life of the project.
