Glasgow City Council has approved plans to turn a long-vacant plot on Allander Street, beside Cowlairs Park in the north of the city, into 33 affordable homes.
The scheme for West of Scotland Housing Association (WSHA) will deliver a combination of terraced houses and cottage flats for social rent. It will bolster the supply of larger family accommodation locally, including nine 3-bedroom houses and twelve 4-bedroom houses.
Designed to meet a 'net zero' standard in line with Glasgow's carbon-reduction goals, the homes will be equipped with air source heat pumps and PV solar panels.
WSHA will deliver the project in partnership with CCG (Scotland), MAST Architects, Cowal Design and RYBKA.
Karen Shaw, Director of Development and Asset Management at West of Scotland Housing Association Group, said: "This development marks an exciting first step in the wider Cowlairs Regeneration, bringing fresh purpose to vacant and derelict land. By creating much-needed larger family homes for rent, West of Scotland Housing Association is addressing targeted housing need in the area."
David Wylie, Managing Director at CCG (Scotland), said: "Securing planning consent at Allander St is an important milestone in delivering much-needed affordable housing in Cowlairs.
"Working in partnership with West of Scotland Housing Association and our valued design team, we look forward to delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes that respond to local housing needs and make a lasting contribution to the north Glasgow community."
Steven Oates of MAST Architects, added: "We are delighted to have obtained planning approval for the development of 33 new warm and healthy homes at Allander Street on behalf of West of Scotland HA.
"Being on the periphery of the Cowlairs masterplan, this is a significant milestone for West of Scotland HA, not only for the project itself, but also for the redevelopment of the area as a whole."
