BAM UK & Ireland has transferred the keys to Caledonia High School in Rosyth, which will open to pupils in August. The building has been constructed to rigorous Passivhaus standards and is expected to use around 75% less energy than a typical UK new-build school, cutting carbon emissions while delivering a comfortable, healthy environment for learners and staff.
The project was delivered in partnership with Fife Council, Hub East Central Scotland and the Scottish Futures Trust, and will replace Inverkeithing High School. Teaching spaces have been planned around modern learning, with fully accessible indoor and outdoor areas that encourage collaboration and interdisciplinary study. Facilities include a 350-seat assembly hall, outdoor sports provision and technology to support digital learning, enabling the building to host wider community activities.
Martin Cooper, BAM Construction Director for Scotland, said: "It has been a privilege to work with our partners to deliver Caledonia High School and create a school that will serve future generations across west Fife."
Martin added: "This project demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration and a shared commitment to education, sustainability and community benefit. We are immensely proud to hand over a modern, inclusive and highly sustainable school that provides inspiring spaces for learning, supports the wider community and will have a lasting positive impact on the area."
Fife Council's Education Spokesperson, Councillor Cara Hilton said"We're delighted to take ownership of this outstanding new school. Caledonia High School represents a significant investment in the future of our young people and the wider community.
"This modern, high-quality learning environment has been designed to support pupils to thrive, and it will serve generations of young people across west Fife."
This is the second Passivhaus school BAM UK & Ireland has delivered with Fife Council, following completion of the Woodmill and St Columba's High School campus in 2024, which recently reported a £433,392 reduction in energy bills in its first year of operation.
Pupils will move into Caledonia High School after the summer break on 19 August 2026, heralding a new chapter for the school community.
