The National Energy System Operator (NESO), created by the UK's 2023 Energy Act to help deliver Great Britain's transition to cleaner energy, has released an update to its Beyond 2030 blueprint for the electricity transmission network.
The original Beyond 2030 report, published in March 2024, set out a national view of the grid Britain will require in the 2030s. The update, issued on 30 June 2026, explains what has changed and what has not, and how updated evidence affects near-term transmission decisions for Ofgem to consider. The document is available on NESO's website
Guy Jefferson, Transmission Managing Director at SP Energy Networks said: "SP Energy Networks is investing £12 billion in the transmission network across central and southern Scotland, upgrading the electricity system, boosting jobs and the economy.
"NESO's update gives further certainty around the country's future electricity grid and its potential to unlock billions in investment; giving businesses and supply chains the confidence to scale up and deliver.
"A fit for purpose modern electricity grid not only supports the UK's ambition of being a clean energy superpower as it capitalises on its natural resources but also brings real benefits to communities — from new jobs and apprenticeships to improved local infrastructure."
