McLaughlin & Harvey have been recognised for their commitment to the construction industry with ten prestigious Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) National Site Awards.

CCS Awards showcase the very best of the construction industry, supporting and driving positive change. The Scheme has been rewarding the UK's most considerate sites since 1998.

At the 2024 ceremonies in Edinburgh and London, 10 McLaughlin & Harvey sites were presented with awards. The winners are presented with either Bronze, Silver or Gold depending on their performance against the Code of Considerate Practice, within similar project value bandings to ensure fairness.

Shauna Young, Head of Responsible Business at McLaughlin & Harvey, said: "Winning 10 awards at the 2024 Considerate Constructor National Site Awards solidifies our commitment to raising industry standards and delivering excellence in community engagement, workforce welfare, and environmental stewardship. As proud partners of Considerate Constructor, the recognition for each of our 10 delivery teams further validates their dedication to considerate management and responsible construction practices. Collaboration, commitment, and care remain the cornerstone values at the heart of our operations."

In the Gold category, The James Hutton Institute and The Usher Building walked away as winners.

McLaughlin & Harvey's work at The James Hutton Institute focuses on the construction of a new International Barley Hub and Advance Plant Growth Centre for The James Hutton Institute near Dundee. McLaughlin & Harvey showed a clear commitment to excellence receiving a Gold National Site Award for the incredible standards upheld during the project in 2023.

The project team demonstrated exceptional commitment to best practices by implementing 4 CCS-approved strategies to take standards further. They used an innovative Lone Worker App for real-time protection of isolated workers. The team also prioritised environmental responsibility with a vape recycling initiative. Finally, in terms of innovation, their 'Be Your Best' employability programme supported female prisoners at Scotland's first female-focused community custody unit. They also introduced pre-insulated ducts on-site to reduce environmental impacts.

The University of Edinburgh Usher Building project involved the construction of a teaching centre, built on a life sciences park on a greenfield site. We demonstrated an exceptional commitment to achieving the highest standards during construction.

The site team has consistently demonstrated innovation and commitment to innovation and best practices. They introduced a notable CCS-approved innovation with their 'Pads for Dads' campaign, providing free period products and information, and introduced best practice Neurodiversity Training to enhance support for diverse individuals.

In the Silver category, our projects at Heart of the City, Northcote Road, RAF Lossiemouth, UKAEA Oxfordshire Advanced Skills and UKAEA Office Building were successful.

Finally, in the Bronze category, Farnborough Airport, Hawick Flood Protection Scheme and Meols Cops Retail Park received awards.

The National Site Awards recognise constructors' efforts to be the most considerate neighbours. They award those creating value in the communities surrounding them, and those that are respectful of the public, the workforce, and the environment.

In 2022, CCS trialled a new format, the Leading Lights Awards, with McLaughlin & Harvey being recognised with six Leading Lights across the two years, but due to great demand they have decided to return to the more inclusive format of the National Site Awards from 2024 onwards.
