Dundee residents could be in line to benefit from a grant to improve insulation in homes.
A £200,000 grant from the Scottish government has been announced by Dundee City Council. It will see loft and cavity wall insulation carried out for many homes as well as the completion of insulated render works on blocks with poor energy efficiency.
Over the past three years the council has used £1m of Universal Home Insulation (UHIS) grant from Holyrood to provide money-saving loft and cavity wall insulation to properties across the city.
A district heating scheme has also been finished for the four multi storey blocks at Dallfield, while external cladding has been added to improve insulation.
The Council says the homes are now easier to heat and fuel bills have been cut by 30 to 40%.
The cladding of a further four multi storey blocks and a district heating scheme in Lochee are expected to be completed by the end of 2012.
Jimmy Black, convener of Dundee City Council’s housing committee, said: "With fuel prices rising, the only thing which is guaranteed to work long term is improving the insulation of our homes.
"This money will bring lower fuel bills to tenants and owners, and will also help to cut the city’s carbon footprint.
"We are grateful to the Scottish Government for this assistance and we will continue to seek out new sources of funding to fight fuel poverty."
